Cambodia Gambling Halls

January 3rd, 2021 at 10:25

There is a captivating background to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, where casino wagering is not allowed. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are allegedly required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling den, contains 150 slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and 66 of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel building that features many comforts on top of the gambling den, which offers 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 tables.
