There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling den gambling is illegal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 1700, and though visas are allegedly needed to pass, there are means around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling hall, highlights 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that highlights many comforts in addition to the gambling den, which provides 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight tables.
